April Camping

Note by JeaN:

The dates we voted on are April 12-14. We agreed to have a caravan leave at 10am on Monday morning.

I want to make it clear deep creek hot springs isnā€™t for everyone. If you have been there please chime in and share your experience.

Iā€™ve been going for over 10 years and have taken many people with me. Iā€™ve learned a few things by trial and error.

1) Itā€™s recommended for people who like to rough it and camp. This means they are comfortable with being 100% self sufficient by bring there own water, food, warmth, shelter, and can shit in a bag and hike it out while down in the hot springs.

2) This area is the high desert and is recommended for people who can endure extreme temperatures. I checked the weather average for April 66 degrees high 41 degrees low. This is the best time weather wise to go. Bring layers, bring shade, bring sun protection, bring fire wood.

3) It is recommended for people who are fit enough to hike an elevation 1000 feet for 2 miles one way and 4 miles round trip. Where we camp is about 2 miles from the hot springs. My suggestion is to have a hearty breakfast. Pack your essentials for the day. Food, water, clothes, and hike out to the hot springs together as a group. Before the sun sets, temperature changes, and light is an issue, to head back to camp for dinner and rest. If you get lost easy and are unsure of how to navigate trails please stay with a group. Flashlights are helpful. The rules are guests are expected to leave at dark but itā€™s not in force. I have been there at night and it is a beautiful safe experience if you know the trails and are prepared. They give maps to new comers. Request one at the gate if this is your first time. It can be helpful.

4) It is recommended for those whom are comfortable with nudity. The hot springs is an clothing optional area. People hike in and out naked and spend all day there nude. Please bring sun protection if you are prone to burn on sensitive areas.

5) It is recommended for people who are secure with connecting with others with out the use of masks. If you are still struggling or have reservations about being around people with out masks this might no be the event for you. Thatā€™s ok. Top priority is safety. If you donā€™t feel safe please donā€™t come. . At the hot springs itā€™s BML land and no longer Bowen Ranch. I have seen them ticket people for camping at the hot springs. This is not allowed. There are no fires allowed at the hot springs but you are allowed to have fires at the camp site provided thereā€™s isnā€™t a hight wind advisory. I will bring a shovel and a bucket with water to be in compliance.

6) This is recommended for people whom are conscious about their trash. There are no trash cans, no one is there to pick up after you. What you bring in you must take out with you. PACK IN PACK OUT!! Itā€™s also highly encouraged to bring trash bags and pick up any trash you find to help keep the land sacred. Minimal impact is best. No glass at the hot springs. No body wants to step on broken glass.

7) It is not recommended to get drunk down at the hot springs. Iā€™m all for having a great time and partying but itā€™s really unsafe to be drunk there. The rocks are slippery even when you are sober. If you hurt yourself because you are careless and cannot hike out you will have to be life lighted out ( helicopter ride). Iā€™ve seen it many times. Itā€™s scary and I want everyone to be safe!!

These are just a few guidelines about how my experiences have been there. I want everyone to know what they are signing up for. My intention is to create clarity and safety with everyone. I want you to be a hell yes. If you have questions please ask.
